First, a small blood sample is drawn and processed through the Selphyl System's closed, sterile system, which separates and concentrates the platelets while removing red and white blood cells that can interfere with healing.

Second, calcium chloride is added to convert the platelet-rich plasma into a fibrin matrix — a scaffold that holds the concentrated platelets in place rather than releasing them all at once.
